NOVTIN-16

Betahistine is a medication commonly used to treat Ménière’s disease and other balance (vestibular) disorders. It helps reduce symptoms such as vertigo (dizziness), tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and hearing loss associated with inner ear problems.

How It Works:

Betahistine acts by improving blood flow in the inner ear, which helps reduce pressure that causes balance disturbances. It is believed to work as a histamine analogue, affecting both H1 and H3 receptors in the inner ear and brain, leading to better circulation and nerve signal regulation.

Dosage and Administration:

Betahistine is usually taken orally in tablet form, often 8 mg, 16 mg, or 24 mg, depending on the doctor’s prescription. It is generally taken two to three times daily with or after food to avoid stomach upset.

Possible Side Effects – Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Indigestion
  • Mild stomach discomfort

Most side effects are mild and temporary. However, anyone experiencing severe allergic reactions or persistent discomfort should contact a healthcare professional.

Precautions:

  • Not recommended for people with pheochromocytoma.
  • Should be used cautiously in individuals with asthma, peptic ulcer, or low blood pressure.
  • Always take under medical supervision.
